Meet Wade Weisbrod, Server Hardware Technician
Wade
Weisbrod, Server Hardware Technician at FastServers.Net. His daily
duties include provisioning dedicated servers, performing server upgrades,
and planning on-site activities for the company. When he's not racking
massive amounts of servers (and we mean massive amounts of servers),
you can find him diligently organizing inventory, maintaining the
server build room, and keeping all the network wiring tight and tangle
free. Wade's our Midwest data center technician and thinks it's the
best facility on the planet. "It's awesome having the data center
downstairs from my office," he said. "It makes troubleshooting and
fixing issues much easier with all the servers only a few feet away.
Everything here [Cedar Falls DC] is in working order, which is really
nice."
Wade is an avid visitor to pubs in the Waterloo, IA area. His favorite is Casey's Pub, where he can sit back and unwind with a tall glass of his favorite beer. His favorite beer was Bud Light, but now finds that every time he drinks, the next day becomes more and more painful than it's worth. "I've been going to Casey's Pub for years," he said. "I used to play pool a lot. I'm also not into the really noisy dance music/bar type of scenes, so Casey's Pub is the ideal place." If he's not at Casey's Pub having a drink or two, Wade enjoys going to a variety of similar bars in his hometown of LaPorte City, IA.
If you have been in the IT industry for a while, say since the nineties, you have probably heard of a game called Everquest. When Wade's not on the data center floor, he spends much of his time playing the game. "Everquest is eye candy. The in-depth content is tremendous," he said. "The game is huge, with many things to do, and literally thousands of other people logged in at once. When I started gaming, you were lucky to find a game that supported ten people at once. Now you log into a server where thousands are out there doing their own thing. And that's just one of many servers," said Wade. He's now playing Everquest 2. What game will he conquer next?
Sometimes you will hear Wade talk about his roots. He says his parents found him under a radioactive rock, buried deep in the ground somewhere in the cornfields of Iowa. This sounds too much like a Superman complex. No, we don't think Wade is Superman, but he can certainly rack and stack those Dell servers in the Cedar Falls, IA data center facility. When he's not complaining about being found under a rock, Wade is often expressing his dream of going on the wildest cruise he can find. "The cruise would go all around the world with stops at locations where there are nothing but single women," said Wade. "If I'm going to dream, I'm might as well dream big!"
When Wade's not dreaming of an all female island somewhere off the coast of who knows where, he's probably watching one of his favorite television shows - Smallville, Eureka (Sci-Fi Channel) or something off the beaten path such as Modern Marvels and Myth Busters. Wade, we're fans of the Sci-Fi Channel as well. Eureka, what a great show! For all of you out there, join the Eureka fan club! Anyway, enough about us. Let's get back to Wade and his favorite television shows. "These shows are some of the best on cable television. They are not the 'reality' shows you see that's now in the mainstream," he said. "Instead, these are shows that are intellectual stimulating. They are ideal for people who need to be challenged even when being entertained."
We asked Wade what he likes most about FastServers.Net. Like most
of the company' employees, he says it's the people. But Wade's response
has a unique twist, "Knowing that the average IQ among the tech team
is fairly high, it's when you actually hear them all together discussing
non-work related topics that will make you think differently about
their IQs," he said. Of course, Wade did confirm the team's average
IQ is still high - when it comes to building custom solutions for
FastServers.Net customers. Is he right? We think so. Our customers
think so too. Tell us if you agree or disagree by contacting a FastServers.Net
