Position: Data Center Engineer
Location: Cedar Falls, IA & Chicago, IL

Responsibilities:
Data center technicians are responsible for server provisioning
(including OS and software installation), initial troubleshooting,
diagnosis of hardware problems, incident escalation and day-to-day
maintenance of the datacenter's physical infrastructure.
General, everyday tasks will include:
- Interfacing with customers and vendors.
- Answering phones and providing quality support to fellow engineers.
- Performing server and network troubleshooting.
- End-to-end trouble ticket handling, troubleshooting, and resolution.
- Network event tracking/notification.
- Configuration and installation of equipment for service orders.
- Installation and configuration of software components (CPanel, Plesk)
Minimum Requirements:
- Strong experience in hardware troubleshooting/fault isolation, working both in team and unsupervised environments
- Multitasking, multitasking, multitasking (you must have talents in this area)
- Minimum of one (1) year datacenter experience or similar experience with a hosting provider.
- Medium understanding of Unix-based operating systems (FreeBSD, Linux in general, RHEL/CentOS are preferred)
- Willing to work any shift as needed including weekends and holidays. We operate 24x7.
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills as well as a strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated willingness to learn, teach, and share knowledge
- We'll need to be able to immediately trust you thoroughly.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows (2000/2003) systems administration, daily operation and troubleshooting
- Physical configuration and maintenance/troubleshooting of x86 hardware
- Ethernet cabling, crimping and testing
- Understanding of RAID configurations including setup, maintenance and recovery
Intermediate understanding of networking and internet protocols:
- Ethernet Switches
- IP Addressing (CIDR/Netmasks)
- DNS (basic dns/bind/resolver troubleshooting)
- TCP/IP (configuration files for various operating systems, base network troubleshooting)
- Firewalling (general understanding of the concept/Cisco PIX or ASA experience is preferred)
